things that could be done in the banking crisis. Rainey was a very picturesque creature. He had long, curly white hair. His hair really curled almost in ringlets not quite around his neck, but very close to it. It was longer than most women wear their hair nowadays. He had very thick, bushy hair that was curly around the face. He had a plump, pink face, but it was a mixed-up face. It didn't have the clear bones and hawk nose that Garner had. It was a kind of a mixed face and his eyes were small in proportion to the rest of his face. He did wear a flowing tie - black, what we used to call a Windsor tie when I was a little girl, He looked very much like cartoons of Congressmen as they used to be. I don't think they look that way now. He was very picturesque.
He was pompous. He was very patronizing, very kind, but full of patronizing protectiveness. He, after all, knew Washington. He knew the government. He knew everything. He was inclined to look upon us newcomers with great affection, but as little better than the idiots who didn't know their way around. But he was very pleasant and very nice.
As we walked out of the Cabinet meting, which had been enlarged by these additional people who came in at the President's invitation, we were met by the press, who did not then have the privileges that they have now. I'm not
