President the next day. I appointed Tobin as chairman of it. I put Lewis on it, just because of what he'd done. I put George Berry on it. I put Sidney Hillman on it. Of course, I put William Green on it, but I made Tobin the chairman of it. I had discussed it with Green, either over the telephone or prior to the session, to ask his advice as to whom I should make chairman of this committee. I said, “Of course, you're the natural chairman, because you're the President of the AF or L, but it occurred to me that we might at least give consideration to making Mr. Tobin the chairman. What do you think?”

“That would be a fine idea, “He said, “That would be fine, Miss Perkins. That will help Dan. He likes to go and see the President and it will help him out. He feels kind of badly now and that'll help.

Anyhow, we made him chairman of the committee and we want over. The President saw us, as it had been arranged. They were very pleased. I put one woman on the committee too, though I can't think which one it was. I had put Hillman on and for the first time they took Hillman along with them anywhere. Of course, they noticed that the President knew him by sight, as he knew Green. Of course, he knew Dan Tobin. He welcomed him warmly. I don't think he knew any of the others, though he may have, but he was
