However, I don't think, since the matter has been brought up, that you can draw any comparison between this Consumers' Committee and the Consumers' Council in the AAA. I just mention this Consumers' Committee to show how Henderson got in and how confused this consumers' proposition got to be. However, they never tried to function the way they did in Triple-A.
As a matter of fact, when it came down to a crisis, Alex Sachs was the person who was relied upon. Mrs. Rumsey relied on him. I certainly relied on him. Johnson relied on him very heavily. I know that some of the Labor Committee, especially Leo Wolman, was always ready to hear Sachs, although he didn't always agree with him. Wolman himself was an economist. Wolman had been appointed Chairman of that Labor Advisory Committee to get it moving, because he could release himself for it. He didn't have a labor union to run. He proved to be very, very good. He was admirable in that committee. He organized it. He kept it moving. He knew the difference between a small matter and a big matter. He kept track of codes. He called the committee together.
The Labor Committee was like many other committees - people wanted to be on it, but they didn't want to do any work. It's the same old story that you always get when you
