else. So somebody hired him another. He had four secretaries in the course of three or four weeks. They were all “no good, lousy.” Two of them were men and two of them were women. It didn't matter if it were a man or a woman. Everybody thought that Hugh being what he was ought to have a man for secretary because he would travel a lot. He didn't care what it was - “Just get me a secretary that knows the business, that will do it right, that will keep me reminded, will keep track of things, not come asking me questions and fluttering around.”
Bobby Straus then remembered this Miss Robinson who had worked as a stenographer in the Democratic headquarters. She'd been one of the few who were employed. Most of the other people who had helped there had been volunteers or paid part-time workers, but Miss Robinson had been employed and was very good indeed. He had liked her am thought she was smart and that she'd kept track of things. He said, “Well, I'll try to get Miss Robinson for you.”
Hugh said, “All right.”
So Bobby Straus brought her down, first telling her over the telephone that Johnson was a terrible man, that he was the hardest person in the world to work for, that he had fought with every secretary he'd had in this first two or three weeks, and would she come down and take him on. She'd
