I was met by my chauffeur and he had a letter. He said, “Mrs. Rumsey gave me this letter to give to you.” She said, “I'm giving a theatre party for Miss Robinson. It's very important that you be there. I've told everybody that you will be there and they've only accepted the invitation on your account. This is very important.”
Delaney said, “Mrs. Rumsey told me to be sure to bring you to the National Theatre.” So he brought me to the National Theatre and I walked in. The play was already going on, but they knew at the box office that I was expected and the ushers knew where Mrs. Rumsey's party was and that I was to be brought down there. So I was brought down and seated. As soon as the lights went on again we all greeted each other. There she had all the lady members of Congress, Miss Dewson from the National Democratic Committee, Mrs. Nellie Tayloe Ross, who was then the Director of the Mint, Carter Glass's sister, Mrs. Bannister, who was in the office of the Treasurer of the United States.
