to dine with them at some other time, but I just didn't think that the Secretary of Labor had better dine privately with Mr. and Mrs. Taylor at a time when the steel unions were making certain demands on them. Of course, I didn't say that to him. I just arranged for some other place of meeting. Mr. Taylor later came to the club to see me, but it wasn't that time.
Of course, a lot of water had gone under the dam since Mr. Taylor and the other steel operators and owners had come in with regard to the NRA code, and since Mr. Taylor had accidentally bumped into William Greon at my house. That was in late 1933 when we were going over the NRA codes. Mary Rumsey and I lived in Georgetown then. I had to entertain a good deal officially and Mary liked to entertain. We had sort of agreed that we would do entertaining together. We'd have a mixed brew. There would be some people that she knew personally, but I knew what she called the interesting people because they were the official people. I've forgotten who was at this particular dinner party, but there was some official reason for entertaining, and one or two other people there. We could put down a dinner of thirty in our dining room and we usually had either twenty-eight or thirty. It
