“I don't think these men are in good faith. I think they've got a crook in the organization. I've discovered this fellow Byrd is a crook. I'm not going to do anything of the sort with the men.” I said, “Mr. Sloan, you gave your word. You gave your word in front of witnesses.” I began to get mad. My daughter says that she's never heard me talk that way in her whole life. She didn't know I had it in me. I don't think I ever was as angry in my life. I think I've already said I've never been angry but twice in my life. This was one of them. I was so really angry that something that wasn't me was bulging up inside of me and language and words that I don't commonly use just came pouring out of my mouth. I said, “You are a scoundrel and a skunk, Mr. Sloan. You can't do that kind of thing. That is a rotter. That's a quitter. You have deceived people. You have misled people.” I said all kinds of things. I was furious. I said, “You don't deserve to be counted among decent men. Decent people don't do such things. Don't you know that? You'll go to hell when you die if you do things like that. You have let down people. You have betrayed your government. You have betrayed the
