told us things that were true before about immigrant cases. He's also told us things that weren't true. He's that kind of an informer. He volunteers, is not on our payroll. He picke up things. I don't know just who he is. I don't know just what his background is, or how he knows these things. But sometimes he tells us things that are correct. We've picked up a number of people on his tips who proved to be illegally here, or proved to be here from over the border, or smuggled on a ship. They're sometimes fugitives from justice from other countries. They come in under false papers. This man has once or twice turned up people like that. Also, once or twice he has turned up people who were engaged in immoral occupations.” There is, of course, as we all know, a kind of half-organized international ring of procurers and pimps, but not really organized. They slip in and fall into the business. “Also, he's tipped us off to a couple of Communists in the last four or five years. He's also tipped us off, however, to a lot of things that, under investigation, were good.

“This is what he tipped us off to on Harry Bridges. He says that Bridges has been a bona fide member of the Communist party.”
