I said, “Well, I think he could. I think he would want to be and I think he would do what you wanted him to do. He would attempt to carry out what you wanted to have carried out, to make the contacts you wanted made.”

“Well, I think he'd be very good. Don't you think he'd be good, Frances?”

I said, “I think he'd be very good. I always have thought so. But you'll have to say so to somebody so that it will be known that that's what you want. I think it can be put over then, and be done. I think anybody you want can be nominated.”

I said, “Well, do you want to say that you want Wallace?”

He said, “Yes, I think that's the thing to do.” He went over it two or three times and finally he said, “Yes, I think Henry Wallace is the person. I think that's what I'll decide.”

I said, “Well, that's fine. How are you going to put it over?”
