claque didn't behave very nicely, I may say. The Hillman outfit claimed, however, that there was some skullduggery involved with the tickets and that some of their people who had genuine tickets were turned away from the gallery. But the Hillman outfit had been behaving pretty badly. They hadn't been behaving the way persons admitted to a gallery at a convention should behave. They had acted as though it was up to them to do the nominating, had shouted things back and forth, always in support of Roosevelt and against McNutt and against everybody else who showed his head.

So I couldn't say where the opposition came from exactly, but I really believe that it was strong among the delegates, as well as in the galleries. The delegates didn't just pick it up from the gallery. The delegates didn't like it and didn't like it because Roosevelt had selected his running mate. They had been through this agony of being sore at Roosevelt a little earlier. They had swallowed that in the interest of party harmony, but something was burning inside of them. They didn't know what it was, but they turned it on Henry Wallace, who was the President's choice for Vice President.
