Harry did take a plane and go from England to Russia. Why did he go? Who told him to go? What authority did he have to go? Churchill vows he didn't know he was going. Churchill vows he didn't make a plane available to him. The British Admiralty has no record of it. American naval communications had no record of it. It may be that since that day Sherwood has found documentation, but when he talked to me about it he could find no documentation to show why Hopkins went, or what authority he had to go, or what kind of a vehicle he got to go in and who gave him the vehicle. In other words, it was quite irregular in some way. Many people who should have known about it were dead, but there were some still living and none of them knew anything about it, including Churchill.

I didn't know anything about it. He was asking me as one of those last gasps. I knew a lot of things that other people didn't know because the President used to talk to me about things that were none of my darn business. Things that were no business of mine at all the President would tell me about and talk to me about. I kept still about it and Sherwood had discovered that this was the case - that I sometimes knew things that weren't my business. However, I didn't
