sure whether it had any usefulness or not, but it was extremely interesting and full of suggestive thinking to which considerable contributions were made by everybody - not only about the operations of the civilian economy lack of the war, but the operations of the economy for the support of the war. A very large part of the problem at certain points was certainly the problem of food production and the costs of food production. I think it was an attempt to sort of revise the program as they went along, get out a measured program so that you could predict in advance what you were going to need six months ahead. I think this was perfectly early in the war that it was set up. I think its function was absorbed into another committee that Byrnes set up. It was partly anti-inflationary, and also to keep up an adequate production for the needs of the world, the needs of the war and the needs of the civilian economy. It's curious that I can't recall the name of that committee. It was one of the most interesting things I went to and I don't recall it.
