the united States. I think I went to one where the coffin was open, which is horrifying. There are lots of palms, rubber plants, ferns and things which they brings from the florist or from the Department of Agriculture greenhouses. They can also be had from the department for a party or ball you're giving if you're a high officer. They're always very willing to lend them. There are also flowers, wreathes, and all that kind of trimming.

There was a call to order by the Vice President or by the Speaker pro tem. Then a Chaplain prayed. Then the speeches. A Republican must make a speech and a Democrat must make a speech, a member of the House must make a speech and a Senator must make a speech. The honors must be distributed among them so that both parties speak, all of which seems lugubrious to me and awfully uncalled for. I don't recall anybody's reading a passage from the Scripture, but perhaps they did. I don't even seem to remember the Twenty Third Psalm being said. I remember extemporaneous prayers by the Chaplains of both hoses, and perhaps extra chaplains brought in too, for all I know.

I always remember at all funerals of this type-this has never failed at the good many I have been to,
