Social Work at Columbia

What our graduates do out in the world after graduation is just as important as what happens to them during their time in the classroom. We provide the skill set and knowledge to transform interests and passion into satisfying careers.

According to a survey of recent social work graduates, each received an average of two employment offers before accepting employment. The vast majority had jobs within a few months of graduation, at competitive salaries. Just out of school, many CUSSW graduates have already found rewarding jobs that point them in exciting directions. Some of these positions include:

• Inpatient social worker, Infant Unit, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore

• Program coordinator, HIV/AIDS Housing Placement Assistance Program

• Director, Camp Fiver— a year-round programming and tuition-free summer camp for

  economically disadvantaged children

• Coordinator, National Center for Children in Poverty, Mailman School of Public Health

• Forensic social worker, Juvenile Rights Division, Legal Aid Society

• Consultant, Praxis Housing Initiatives

• Program supervisor, Lupus Line and Charla de Lupus Hospital for Special Surgery

• Clinical services coordinator, Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking

A large number of CUSSW graduates go on to become directors and leaders of social work agencies and institutions throughout the nation and the world. Thirty-nine CUSSW graduates have been deans of other schools of social work.
