Clark:

Was I one of those advisors?

Q:

I never read who advised. You were?

Clark:

I was one of those advisors. But I think maybe he was right.

Q:

It made him a world figure, did it not?

Clark:

Yes.

Q:

How many Congressmen become world figures?

Clark:

That's right. One of the things I pointed out to Andy was what happened to [Adlai] Stevenson. And was it Arthur Goldberg. But I think, looking back--hindsight is 20-20--that maybe he was right in terms of his projection of himself, and the influence he had during the Carter administration. Maybe he had too much influence; that's why he was destroyed. He certainly had influence in terms of the American position in the Third World. But it was undone with Kirkpatrick.

Q:

Coming to that meeting or those meetings that he had with P.L.O. representatives. Do you believe that he was prompted to do that or would you think, knowing him and his sympathies for the Third World, that he was self-starting?
