The union organizers had moved in there and had really given some stability to the situation. John Flynn and Collins, while attempting to make an organization, had given stability and order to the whole strike, which would have otherwise been very disorderly.

We were not able to come to any conclusions. In the early afternoon of the next day it became obvious that we would have to hold another hearing. We so announced and had the word sent around that we would hold a hearing in the courthouse beginning at six o'clock. We chose that hour because it was a town in which people ate early and it would be cooler. It would be in the cool of the evening during this very hot weather.

They came together. The hall was crowded. Everybody in town was there. It was a nice, big, old-fashioned courthouse. The windows had big, deep sills on the outside and were just above the level of easy looking in no that the boys and young men scrambled up on ladders and each other's shoulders and sat on the outside of the windows looking in. Every window was crowded with eager faces looking at us. The balcony, all the galleries - everything was full. The steps of the courthouse were full. The park was full of people.
