people in the Survey Magazine - the Kelloggs, Paul and Arthur - in those years before 1920 and I knew them well by 1920. I must have known Adah Hopkins at that time.

Barry Smith, who just died recently (1952) and who was head of the Commonwealth Foundation, came to the School of Social Work after he was adult. He'd had years of doing something else - either in business or a professor in some college. He had been at the Buckley School - a good boy's school in New York - and had got to the idea that he didn't want to go on with what he was doing. He wanted to be a social worker. He went to the School of Social Work. I know that Adah Hopkins knew him and I knew Barry Smith at just about that time through her and through the Kelloggs, who were very active in the School of Social Work and taught there. He was a very interesting personality.

There was also Allen T. Burns, who developed the great idea of raising money in large sums by drives for charities. I met him in Chicago Commons first, but he was in New York by this time and was operating around some of these foundations. He was a very vigorous, active person.

The Kelloggs were among the most interesting people I ever met in my life - Arthur and Paul Kellogg. Arthur Kellogg is now dead and Paul is still the editor of the Survey, and I know seems to many people to be worn out and
