train just outside of Jasper. I can't remember who was on the train exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if Henry Stimson didn't go. I don't remember him either there, but he might have been there. There were other high officers of government there. I remember Jesse Jones there plainly, looking as sober as an owl and trying to set up whiskey for everybody on the train down. He made believe he didn't believe me when I said I didn't care for any whiskey. He had apparently brought aboard an ample supply and his idea was that everybody should have a good drink.

I remember very little about that evening. I remember talking to Jesse Jones for quite a while about politics. It was mostly political conversation, with occasional remarks about the Speaker, what a nice fellow he was, and all that sort of thing, but nobody's heart was broken. He could be replaced. That was the general impression. Frank Walker was nice about him, and Jim Farley might have also gone down. He would have done that kind of things. He has that warm-hearted feeling about people.

At any rate, I went to bed early and had a good sleep. We got up in the morning. Early came through the train and announced what we would do. We had our breakfasts. We would arrive at Jasper at a certain
