I have a dictaphone here. Everything we say is made a matter of record so I won't forget it. Now go right on.”

Now, “go right on” to me meant, “Shut your mouth, Frances, and say no more.” So I think the conversation ended about then. I let it peter out into not saying much. I certainly wasn't going to reveal to this dictaphone what plans I had in mind. I hadn't told them to the President yet. This was all very preliminary. It wasn't that I was trying to hide anything, but you don't go to the President with every little pipsqueak idea you have. You try to coordinate it into a program that's well thought out before you take it to him. So I didn't want it going into the dictaphone.
