Now it's funny and interesting as a footnote, but I think it bears on his noting the way the easterners behaved and that he was not a part of it. I never watched to see how he did it later, but I'd bet you a nickel that part of the time he put his shirt on first and then he put on his trousers. Because he was wanting to be accepted in the eastern community; and for that I feel very sorry.
Ruth didn't feel sorry. She said, you know, he should be what he is and not try to be something else. It's just a point of view, that's all.
Talking a little bit about his views of the press, in general, do you think he--he was obviously very vigilant. I mean, he had three TV's in every room, right? He monitored the press constantly. What were some of his opinions about how the press covered him.
Like every President I've ever known, they're [the press is] just totally wrong, didn't understand what was going on, uninformed, unprepared. “Look at the questions they ask.” You know.
Were there any particular networks or people that he despised? Reporters?
Johnson? No, I don't think so. There was enough disdain to go around for all of us.
It was equally dispersed?
Sure.
