Your Advisor serves as the primary resource of educational support throughout your time at the School.  S/he is the “point person” to advisees for general academic and field issues, deciding on a practice method and field of practice for your second year, and addressing problems that may potentially impact your academic performance.  View the full list of advisors here.



What You Can Expect From Your Advisor

  • General academic support and consulting with:
    - Course completion (managing your courseload, what to do if you need to drop a class, time management)
    - Class assignments

  • General Field Placement support and consulting with:
    - Field learning and how your classes can best support your educational goals
    - Field placement visits. First-year advisors make two field site visits (fall and spring). Second–year advisors make one field visit and others when deemed necessary

  • Identifying student strengths and providing constructive feedback on skills that require improvement (in class or in the field)

  • Assigning grades for field

  • Providing support around personal issues that may be impacting your academic/field performance

  • Facilitating of monthly meetings – VERY IMPORTANT!!

  • Responding to student questions by phone or email within 24 business hours


What Advisors Expect from Advisees

  • Mandatory attendance in monthly meetings

  • Submit written work requested by advisor in a timely fashion (e.g. process recordings)

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with advisor

  • As part of your development in the field and in school, students should be open to their advisor's constructive feedback and reflect on areas that call for improvement
